Cherry Frozen Yogurt
A few weeks ago my mom gave me her copy of Relish magazine, which comes as an insert in the Sunday newspaper. She gave me this particular issue because an article on frozen yogurt recipes was featured on the cover, and she knew that I was having all sorts of fun trying out recipes in my new ice cream maker. I am so glad that she thought of me, because, wow, this cherry frozen yogurt is delicious!
Homemade frozen yogurt is super easy to make. All that I had to do was chop the cherries (I used frozen); mix the cherries, low-fat vanilla yogurt, and sugar together; and freeze in my ice cream maker. After churning, the frozen yogurt was soft, like soft-serve ice cream. I put it in the freezer for a few hours before serving it for dessert, and it was the perfect consistency.
This cherry frozen yogurt is sweet and creamy, and so flavorful. The cherry and vanilla (from the yogurt) flavors both come through and work really well together. I can’t wait to try making other yogurt flavors- I have a recipe for mocha frozen yogurt that I just might have to try next!
Cherry Frozen Yogurt
Makes about 6 cups. Serves 8.
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups cherries, pitted and chopped small (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups low-fat vanilla yogurt
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Freeze in an ice cream maker according to manufacturer’s instructions. Serve immediately or transfer to a freezer container and freeze.
