We recently celebrated Julia’s second birthday. We had a small family gathering. This year has flown by, and it is amazing to see how much Julia is changing and learning every day!  I chose a ladybug theme for Julia’s 2nd birthday party, and it turned out to be a really fun theme to work with.  Julia now loves ladybugs even more than she did before, and she’s still carrying around her ladybug balloon from the party!

If you are struggling with a theme for your toddler’s birthday party, I usually start by searching for ideas on Pinterest. I hope the simple decorations in this post will provide inspiration for your toddler’s birthday party.

Ladybug Birthday Invitations and Decorations

My sister, Lisa, and I made these adorable ladybug invitations for the party. The invitations are made from red, black and white construction paper. We used a six-inch red circle of construction paper on top of a white 5-inch circle for the body of the ladybug.  We used my sister’s Silhouette Cameo to cut and print the invitations but you could also cut them by hand. The wings are attached with brads so they can open to reveal the invitation.

I made a simple Happy Birthday banner to hang above the dessert table from the same construction paper as the invitations.  For table decorations, we used red tulips, ladybug and flower centerpieces, and Valentine M & M’s in a glass candy jar. My mom used fabric with hearts and ladybugs to make a cute ladybug table runner.

For the birthday dessert, I made vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with ladybug cupcake toppers. They turned out so cute! As an alternative to the cupcake toppers, you could use chocolate sprinkles on the cupcakes.

My mom made the table decorations.  She made quick ladybug centerpieces by placing ladybug stationery on all four sides of a small box. She topped the flower centerpieces with white and red polka dot ribbon.

A quick ladybug birthday sign rounded out the decorations.

As you can tell, I have a wonderful family who helped out so much in the planning and preparations for the party!

The Party

For lunch, I kept it really simple and easy. We ordered pizza which Julia loves and this allowed me to spend more time enjoying her birthday with her, rather than cooking in the kitchen all day.  We served a green salad to go with the pizza, and my mom made these pretty fruit skewers pictured below.

We had a wonderful time celebrating with our family and friends.  Thank you so much to everyone who helped to make Julia’s 2nd birthday a special one!
