Our beautiful baby boy, Trevor, arrived last week! He surprised us by coming just over two weeks early. None of our other kids were born more than a week early, so I was expecting to have one more week to rest up… and fill my freezer with a few dinners and snacks! But Trevor had his own timeline and was ready to join our family.

I had already scheduled this healthy pumpkin bread recipe to go up on Monday morning, and I laughed to myself as I read it while holding our baby boy in my arms. I was pretty sure that he wouldn’t be born before that post went live but I was wrong! I was right about the gender though, and we are so happy to have another little boy in our family. I’m excited for William to have a little brother who he can teach to build train tracks and fly paper airplanes. It’s going to be so fun to watch their bond as brothers once they get older.

Two boys and two girls… we are so blessed with our (not so) little family!

Weighing in at just under 7 pounds, Trevor is also my smallest baby. Another surprise, but not too unexpected given that he was born more than a week earlier than his brother and sisters. He was 19.25 inches long at birth.

We are all doing well, and figuring out how to be a family of six. During this newborn stage, it’s really challenging to meet the needs of four kids. Someone always needs something!

Julia loves her baby brother and asks to hold him often. It’s so sweet the way she looks at him.

William is pretty busy doing his own 5 year old boy thing, but I can tell how much he loves his brother because I’ll catch him close to Trevor, talking to him or just looking at him, from time to time.

Hannah is very interested in her new baby brother. She wants to kiss him and touch his head any chance she gets. She says, in her cute little voice, “I love you, Trevor.” And she loves to help with diaper changes. She’s also experiencing some jealousy, though, which is understandable considering the amount of time I spend taking care of the baby. I’m doing my best to give her the one-on-one attention that she needs. If any of you have advice on how to make this transition smoother, please share.

Although our days are crazy, I’m doing my best to soak it all in. The baby snuggles. The middle of the night nursing sessions. The tiny hands and tiny feet. The sweet moments between brothers and sisters. The naps (both mine and baby’s)! I wish the newborn stage would last just a little bit longer than it does. It’s both so hard and so precious at the same time.
