Oven BBQ Chicken
from kristineskitchenblog.com
This oven BBQ chicken has juicy bone-in chicken thighs, seasoned with a delicious spice rub and baked in the oven. We brush on BBQ sauce, then bake some more until the chicken is done and the sauce is caramelized. This recipe is so good and so easy! Serve it with a few comforting side dishes, like homemade mac and cheese, potato salad or mashed potatoes.

- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 3 pounds bone-in skin-on chicken thighs
- 1 cup BBQ sauce plus more for serving, if desired
Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil (for easy clean up; do not use parchment since it isn't broiler-safe).
Combine the seasonings in a small bowl: smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Whisk or stir to mix.
Pat chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Sprinkle the seasoning blend over the chicken and rub over all sides of the chicken thighs (for added flavor on the meat, try to get some seasonings under the skin). Place on the prepared baking sheet, skin side down.
Bake for 20 minutes. Then take the pan out of the oven and brush thighs with BBQ sauce. Use tongs to flip them over and brush the other side with BBQ sauce. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 5 more minutes. Brush the tops of the thighs with BBQ sauce once more, then return to the oven and bake for 5-10 more minutes, or until chicken is cooked through to at least 165°F. (Thighs are forgiving, so I often cook them to 175°F and they are still juicy and tender.)
Optional: Broil chicken thighs for 1-2 minutes, just until the BBQ sauce starts to caramelize.
Let chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve with additional BBQ sauce.(Discard any leftover sauce that you used to brush on the uncooked chicken.)
