I’m starting a new series on the blog today! I am super excited about this Healthy Bites for Kids series, because it allows me to combine my passions for cooking, healthy eating, and kids (I am a mom and teacher, after all!). We’ll get to these Apple Dippers with Honey-Cinnamon Yogurt in a minute. (Don’t they look scrumptious?!)

If you don’t have kids or grandkids, you’ll still want to stick around. While I’ve designed these healthy recipes with kids in mind, adults will enjoy them too. Take, for example, these No-Bake Energy Bites that I shared on Wednesday. Energy bites are a perfect snack for little hands, but I bet you’d like to take a bite out of one of those right now too, wouldn’t you? Thought so.
For those of you who share my passion for providing kids with healthy and delicious foods, you can look forward to a new post in the Healthy Bites for Kids series each Friday. Yippee!
What is Healthy Bites for Kids?
In the Healthy Bites for Kids series I will share ideas for kids’ breakfasts, lunches and snacks. These recipes will be easy to make, healthy options that you can pack in your child’s lunchbox or serve at home when they once again say, “I’m hungry.” All of the recipes will be tested not only by myself, but also by my two semi-picky little taste-testers, ages 2 and 5.
Why a Healthy Bites for Kids series?
I want to help you with the never-ending struggle of what to feed your children. As a mom, I know the challenge of creating healthy lunches and snacks to feed your kids on a daily basis. I can’t tell you how many evenings I’ve stared at my daughter’s lunchbox, trying to think of something nutritious to fill it with! Besides that, my kids seem to be hungry all day long and it’s all too easy to run out of ideas for healthy snacks.
When it comes to breakfast, I’ve found that when I feed my kids a nutritious and filling meal to start the day, the rest of the morning goes so much more smoothly. I get cranky when I’m hungry, so I can’t blame them for doing the same!
I know a lot of you likely have the same struggles. I’m here to help! I want to share easy recipes that your kids will love, and I want those recipes to be made with real, non-processed foods as often as possible.
I do have a little disclaimer here. While I try to avoid buying packaged foods and snacks, I am a busy, working mom and cannot make everything from scratch. So you will find a few store-bought items, like whole grain tortillas, for example, in my recipes. I think it’s ok to do what we can with the time and energy we have available, while always keeping the goal of healthy eating in mind.
Where can you find the Healthy Bites for Kids recipes?
The recipes can be found on this Healthy Bites for Kids archive page.
In the future, you can easily get to the recipes by clicking on the button near the top of the right sidebar. It’s the one with the picture of today’s apple dippers that says “Healthy Bites for Kids.” You can also use the category list on my right sidebar and choose “Healthy Bites for Kids.”
You’ll notice that although I’m just starting this series today, there are quite a few recipes there already. I’ve gone through the list of all 400+ posts on Kristine’s Kitchen and categorized the ones that are healthy choices for kids’ breakfasts, lunches, and snacks into my Healthy Bites for Kids category.
The Healthy Bites for Kids archive page will continually grow as I share new recipes with you.
Now on to the first recipe in the series, these Apple Dippers with Honey-Cinnamon Yogurt. I’ve been making these for my kids for a while now, and they are always a huge hit. Whenever I make these for Julia and William, they think they’re getting a treat, and I love that I’m feeding them a healthy snack that they enjoy.
These Apple Dippers with Honey-Cinnamon Yogurt are so simple to make, and they’re full of nutrition for your little ones’ tummies. The apple slices are naturally sweet and full of satisfying fiber. To make the yogurt dip, I use Greek yogurt because it’s high in protein. Between the apples and the yogurt, this is a snack that will keep your kids full for a while. I very lightly sweeten the yogurt with honey and mix in a little cinnamon for extra flavor.
When I made these apple dippers the other day to take the photos for this post, William was napping. That meant that while Julia got to eat one of the servings of these, I got to enjoy the second serving. The sweet apples with the creamy cinnamon yogurt dip were so good, I might just start making these just for me!
- 1 cup lowfat Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp. honey
- ⅛ tsp. cinnamon
- 1 apple, thinly sliced
- Whisk together Greek yogurt, honey, and cinnamon. Divide honey-cinnamon yogurt into two serving bowls. Serve apple slices alongside yogurt, for dipping.
