Blueberry Smoothie
Start your day with this healthy smoothie and get in some greens, fruit, oats, and protein-rich Greek yogurt first thing! This Blueberry Smoothie is packed with superfoods and perfect for busy mornings! It makes a yummy and healthy breakfast for kids or adults!
Now that the weather is starting to warm up, we are making more smoothies for breakfasts and snacks. What is it about a smoothie that can brighten your mood? Especially kids. When someone’s cranky, all it takes is mention of a smoothie for a snack and smiles appear.
I have quite a few smoothie recipes on this website, and I make most of them pretty consistently. This Blueberry Smoothie is my 6-year-old’s favorite, as he loves blueberry smoothies best. I don’t think he even realizes that there is spinach in this healthy oatmeal smoothie!
This Blueberry Smoothie is quick enough for you to make for weekday breakfasts. All you need to do is add everything to your blender and blend until smooth. It takes 5 minutes, tops!
This Healthy Blueberry Smoothie:
- is made without banana. I know that some of you are looking for smoothies with no banana and this is a great one!
- has lots of staying power. It will keep you full all morning, since it has fiber from the oats and berries and protein from the Greek yogurt.
- can be made dairy-free by omitting the yogurt and using non-dairy milk.
This Blueberry Smoothie is a lifesaver when it’s too warm to enjoy a hot breakfast but you still want something healthy and filling to start your day. Any smoothie can be breakfast, of course, but I like to put oats in my breakfast smoothies. The oats add healthy fiber and help to bulk up the smoothie so it has more staying power. I’ve also used Greek yogurt in this Blueberry Smoothie to give it more filling protein.
Why the spinach? Why not? 🙂 I’m all for getting some greens in first thing in the morning. You can’t taste the spinach at all, so throw in a good-sized handful!
Even when our temperatures cool down, I’ll still continue to make this smoothie for breakfast or snack time. If you love oatmeal smoothies, I think you’ll also love my Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie. It’s one of my kids’ favorite breakfasts, and you can use your favorite berries! Or, try my Apple-Pear Oatmeal Smoothie, which is especially delicious when you are craving fall flavors.

Notes
This smoothie looks awesome! Love the color the blueberries give it 🙂
Thanks, Medha! We go through frozen blueberries like crazy around here… 🙂
I love putting spinach in my smoothies. This looks like the perfect quick and easy breakfast 🙂
Thank you, Cathleen! Smoothies are my favorite way to sneak in some extra veggies!
I’m in the U.K. when you say a cup what size cup do you mean? Can’t wait to try this im looking for some quick healthy breakfasts and snacks and this looks great
I use a U.S. cup measure which is 240mL. When making a smoothie the measurements don’t have to be exact, so you can just use approximately the right ratio in this recipe.
It’s been so hot here too, so I’m loving this smoothie! And sneaking in some spinach is such a great idea. This looks like the perfect way to start out the morning with, Kristine!
Thanks, Gayle! I’m trying to get ready for fall and doing plenty of baking with pumpkin, now all we need is the weather to cooperate! 🙂
Ew, wasn’t it just waaaay too hot last week?! My poor chickens. They were panting and so hot and miserable. Glad it’s finally starting to cool down! Love the color of this smoothie. So pretty!
Oh no! Those poor chickens! It felt almost fall-like today and I loved it! I bet your chickens did too. 🙂
I love adding spinach to smoothies, it makes me feel like I’m being healthy without even trying! I love this blueberry version, it sounds so perfect for breakfast.
Thank you, Danielle! Smoothies are the perfect way to sneak in spinach, aren’t they?!
Blueberry spinach smoothie is seriously my favorite smoothie. Possibly because it’s my favorite color. Yum!
Thanks, Aileen!
Where are the nutrients posted.
Hi Yvonne, I don’t usually calculate the nutrition information for my recipes. If you are interested, there are many online calculators that can help.
Just tried this morning….delicious!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for letting me know. 🙂
Just made for an afternoon pick me up! Delicious!! Thank you Kristine!
Yay! I’m so glad you liked this smoothie, Sarah!
Can you use frozen spinach?
Hi Cat, I’ve never tried, but I think frozen spinach would work.
Thanks for the recipe. Amazing how you never taste the spinach in a smoothie. I use some everytime I make a smoothie and I make it in my 5 year old Vitamix. Love that machine and it does such a wonderful job to truly make it a smoothie. Love our recipes!
Thank you, Jean! I’m so happy you are enjoying my recipes!
I didn’t have blueberries and substituted blackberries… very bitter, will have to try it again with blueberries!
I find that blackberries can also leave lots of seeds in my smoothies, which I don’t care for. I hope you enjoy this more with the blueberries!
Any idea how vanilla yogurt with almond milk would taste instead of the plain yogurt?
I think it would be delicious! The vanilla yogurt is likely sweetened so the smoothie will be a little sweeter, with a hint of vanilla.
I make all my smoothies with half fruit, half frozen spinach. Frozen spinach has all the nutrition of fresh, it’s more convenient and it adds extra icy creamy volume. And best of all it’s even more neutral tasting than fresh. (Neutral being a polite term for “completely tasteless” which is why I don’t use frozen spinach in anything else).
I thought that it was an easy simple ingredient list, the color of the smoothie was pale brown with green and purple specs, not as appetizing as I liked, so i went ahead and tried it. It definitely did not a have a bad flavor, but was not how I expected
Hi Lucy,
The less vibrant color in my experience is from it not being blended well enough. Before I had a high power Vitamix blender my smoothie was closer to yours in color.
I love smoothies like this!! A couple of years ago a friend introduced me to aronia berries I like to add these to the smoothie too.
Why does mine never come out as purple?
To get the bright purple color, you need to use a high powered blender (such as a Vitamix) at a pretty high speed. The more fully the ingredients are blended, the more vibrant the color. It could also be the exact ratio of ingredients used (spinach/blueberries/yogurt, etc.). I bet it tastes delicious regardless! 🙂
We had no ripe bananas for our daily fruit smoothie this morning! I found this recipe and I’m so glad I did!! It was delicious and I’ll definitely be making it again! My 11 month old daughter loved it and my husband (who isn’t a fan of spinach) liked it too!! Looking forward to trying more of your recipes! ?
I assume the oats are not cooked ?
That is correct.
OMG I love it!!! It’s not too heavy at all! Perfect for breakfast and delicious too. Thank you.
I like it :))))
I just started trying smoothies for breakfast. Saw this recipe and has a beginner smoothie drinker, I was hesitant to try it . So glad I did! Taste good and it’s healthy! Thank you Kristine for sharing this recipe. I never would have ever thought about putting oats in the smoothie, but it works ☺️
Could I make at night, and then drink it the next morning? Great recipe!
Hi Joana, This has the best texture and appearance when it is enjoyed right after blending.
I made this with my new high power blender, adding one lone kale leaf that was hanging around in my crisper along with the other ingredients. The flavor of the kale is hidden in this smoothie. Absolutely delicious!
What if I don’t have frozen blueberries and only fresh?
Using frozen blueberries (vs. fresh) helps to thicken and chill the smoothie. Since the blueberries are the only frozen ingredient in this smoothie, I recommend freezing them before making the smoothie. Alternatively, you could try blending in some ice.
I looove it, I add frozen spinach instead of fresh, and I did half strawberries and half blueberries. The way you add oats and removed Bannan is stunning 10/10 definitely going on my list
Hi Kristine! I made the Strawberry Banana smoothie and it was delicious. Now I’m going to try the Blueberry Spinach smoothie, but would like to know, do I cook the 3 Tablespoons of oats first, or just stir in the 3 Tablespoon of oat flakes into the smoothie?
Thank you!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the strawberry smoothie! Mix the rolled oats in uncooked. 🙂
why the milk and what can take its place?
You need some liquid for the smoothie to blend properly. You can use coconut water or a nondairy milk, such as almond milk or oat milk.
I am always looking for something different and quick with everyday ingredients I usually have on hand… Alot of your recipes do just that.
love all your recipes keep them coming
Omg yum. First sip tasted like blueberry oatmeal, new fave smoothie. I love the thin consistency too. I did add maple syrup for sweetness. Thank you!
