Tips for the Best Crispy Wings
- Buy “party-style” wings, which are already separated into flats and drumettes. This saves you the hassle of cutting the wings into flats and drumettes and trimming off the wingtips yourself.
- Dry the wings very well before tossing them with the oil and seasonings. This helps them to get extra crispy in the oven.
- Season them well. It may seem like there is too much seasoning but trust me it’s not.
- Bake them on a wire rack set over a baking sheet to allow air to circulate all around each piece. Similarly, don’t overcrowd them on the rack.
- Bake them at high temperature, 400° F.
- Flip them halfway through the cook time to get them crispy all around.
- Cook them to an internal temperature of 190-200° F for wings that are crispy with juicy, fall-off-the-bone meat.
Chicken Wings Dipping Sauces
What to serve with wings? Choose one (or more!) of these yummy sauces:
To Make Buffalo Wings
Let the wings rest for 2-3 minutes after baking and then toss the baked chicken wings with buffalo sauce. Serve and enjoy!
Can You Cook Them in the Air Fryer?
Yes! Use my Air Fryer Chicken Wings recipe as a guide. You will need to cook the wings in batches if using an air fryer.
Can You Use Frozen Wings?
If your chicken wings are frozen, you’ll need to thaw them in the refrigerator before making this recipe. Frozen wings won’t get crispy unless thawed and pat dry.

Baked Chicken Wings
Ingredients
- 3 pounds chicken wings, look for "party-style" wings which are already split, or split at joints into flats and drumettes and remove wingtips
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ¾ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional, for serving: Buffalo Sauce, Ranch Dressing, Blue Cheese Dressing or your dipping sauce of choice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400° F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. Spray the wire rack with cooking spray.
- In a small bowl, stir together the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Set side.
- Use paper towels to pat the wings until very dry. Drying them well will help them to crisp up in the oven.
- Place the wings in a large bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil and toss to coat.
- Sprinkle the seasonings over the wings in the bowl a little at a time, tossing to coat after each addition of seasonings, until you've used all of the seasonings to evenly coat all of the chicken wings.
- Place wings on the wire rack that's set over the baking sheet, spreading them out in an even layer. Bake for 20 minutes, then flip the wings over. Bake for 20-30 more minutes, until wings are crispy and golden brown. (Wings are best when cooked to an internal temperature of 190-200° F.)
- Serve immediately, with your desired dipping sauces.
