Instant Pot Chicken Recipes are a Game-Changer

Kristine of Kristine's Kitchen.

You know those days when you just can’t decide what to make for dinner? I have those too. When that happens, I often look to this list of Instant Pot chicken recipes for inspiration! With such a delicious variety of easy recipes, there’s always something that sounds good in this recipe collection.

I love using my Instant Pot to make dinner for my family because it’s quick, mostly hands-off, and I have less dishes to wash, especially if it’s a one pot meal like Instant Pot Chicken and Rice. But my favorite part is how flavorful Instant Pot meals are. The pressure cooking process creates the best rich flavors in a fraction of the time!

Tips for Cooking Chicken in the Instant Pot

After many years of testing recipes for the Instant Pot, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks for cooking the best Instant Pot chicken. If you’re just getting started, don’t miss my beginner’s guide on How to Use an Instant Pot.

  • Always use a natural release to let the pot depressurize once the pressure cooking cycle ends when cooking meat, including chicken. This makes the chicken much more tender. All of my Instant Pot chicken recipes specify how long of a natural release is best for that recipe.
  • When cooking chicken breasts in your Instant Pot, the size of the individual chicken breasts (not the total quantity of chicken) will determine the cook time. Try to use chicken breasts that are similar in size.
  • The best way to check if your chicken is done is to use an instant read thermometer to check the internal temperature. It should be 165° F at the thickest part.
  • If your chicken is not done after pressure cooking, you can either (a) do a second pressure cooking cycle or (b) finish cooking the chicken using the Instant Pot sauté function.
  • You do not need to thaw frozen chicken before cooking it in your Instant Pot. Since the Instant Pot cooks quickly at high pressure, it is perfectly safe to cook frozen chicken in the Instant Pot.
  • You can thicken sauces or sauté veggies for your meal right in your Instant Pot using the sauté function. I just love the convenience!
